Article number 2404853 by Kai Zhang, Qi Mei, Rong Sun, Haiquan Lu, and co-workers reveals the critical role of polyamine anabolism in chemotherapy-induced breast cancer stem cell (BCSC) enrichment. Chemotherapy induces the transcription factor HIF-1-regulated ODC1 and SRM expression and activates polyamine anabolism, which finally leads to enrichment of BCSCs. This study provides a novel strategy for breast cancer treatment by identifying a novel specific HIF-1 inhibitor, britannin, which effectively blocks chemotherapy-induced polyamine anabolism and BCSC enrichment.
